What this covers
Why it is safe to leave your booking page open to the internet, and what to do if a guest says they cannot submit.
What protects the page
- An invisible anti-bot check on every submission. Real guests see nothing and do nothing.
- Limits on how often anyone can search for times or submit a booking, so nobody can hammer the page.
- A guarantee against double booking. If two guests submit for the same last table at the same instant, exactly one succeeds and the other is told to try again. This is enforced at the moment of writing, not by hoping.
Together these mean an open booking page does not need watching.
"I can't submit the form"
Almost always one of these:
- The submit button seems dead for a second or two. The invisible check is still running — it waits deliberately rather than letting a bot through. Ask them to wait a moment and try again.
- A very strict browser or a VPN. Some privacy extensions block the check entirely. Ask them to try a normal browser window, or take the booking over the phone.
- They tried several times quickly. The rate limit will let them through shortly.
- The slot genuinely went while they were typing — they see "We couldn't submit your reservation." and a Try again button.
In every case the fallback is the same and perfectly fine: take the booking yourself.
If you think you are getting fake bookings
Rare, but if you suspect it:
- Set your default status to Pending for a while, so every booking is checked before it counts. See Booking rules for your public page.
- Blacklist a repeat offender — see Blacklisting a guest.
- Turn reminders on. The most effective answer to no-shows, which is what "fake bookings" usually turn out to be. See Reservation reminders.
What is recorded about visitors
Your funnel report counts page views, slot searches and bookings — but it counts them anonymously. No personal details are stored for someone who browses and leaves, and nothing can be traced back to an individual. Only guests who actually book give you their details, and those go on their booking. See Booking page funnel report and Your guest data and privacy.
