Quick floor edits during service

What this covers

Moving tables around on the plan in the middle of a shift, without opening the full editor.

Needs the floor plan feature, and permission to move tables — Owner, Manager and Host. Deliberately including Hosts: they are the people actually rearranging the room. Servers do not get it.

Why it exists

Rooms change during service. Two tables get pushed together for a party of eight, an extra table goes out on the terrace because the weather turned. The full editor is a setup tool and too heavy for 20:15 on a Saturday. This is the light version.

Opening it

On Live View in floor-plan mode, use the Quick edit floor plan button.

If it is disabled and says "Save a layout in the full floor plan editor first", you have not saved a floor plan yet. Quick edits are always undoable back to your saved layout, so a saved layout has to exist before you can make them. See Drawing your floor plan.

What you can do

  • Drag a table to a new position.
  • Select a table, then use Rotate or Size.
  • Remove from plan — take a table off the drawing for tonight. It does not delete the table.
  • Add table — put out an extra, temporary table. See Temporary tables.
  • Restore default layout — put everything back. See Saving and restoring your default layout.

What it deliberately cannot do

Walls, doors and areas, the canvas size, renaming a table, changing a table's capacity, deleting a table, or editing sections. Those are setup decisions and stay in the full editor, which the modal links to as Full editor.

The split is intentional: during service you should be able to move furniture without any risk of changing how many people a table seats.

Nothing saves until you press Save

The editor tells you: "Drag a table to reposition it. Changes apply when you hit Save." Cancel discards everything, and if you try to leave with unsaved moves you are asked "You have unsaved table moves. Discard them?"

There is no autosave, on purpose — a stray drag on a busy tablet must not silently become your floor plan.

Quick edits are real, but not permanent

Once saved, your changes are live for everyone immediately. But they sit on top of your default layout rather than replacing it, so Restore default layout puts the room back whenever you want. As the editor says: for permanent changes, use the full editor.

A typical Saturday

  1. Party of nine books. Drag two four-tops together and merge them for the booking — see Merging tables for a large party.
  2. Warm evening, so add a temporary table outside, set to expire tonight.
  3. Save. Everyone's Live View now matches the real room.
  4. Next morning, Restore default layout. The temporary table has already retired itself.
