Promo codes

What this covers

Entering a promotion code, checking it worked, and the usual reasons one is refused.

Everything on this page needs the manage-billing permission, which belongs to the Owner alone — not even a Manager has it. If Subscription is missing from your settings menu, you are not an Owner (link The Owner account).

Where to enter one

There are two places, depending on where you are in your life with Tabledoo:

WhenWhere
Signing up, or reactivatingOn the secure card payment step. Look for the promotion-code field there
Already subscribedProperty Settings → Subscription — enter it on the subscription page

The second one matters: you do not have to catch a code at signup. A code given to you later can be applied to an existing subscription, and takes effect from your next invoice.

Codes are not case-sensitive, and stray spaces are ignored — so typing one in lower case is fine.

Checking it worked

Two confirmations:

  1. A success message when you apply it.
  2. The discount appears on your subscription page alongside your next invoice amount. This is the one to trust — look at the next-invoice figure and confirm it reflects the discount.

If the message said success but the next invoice looks unchanged, reload the page before worrying.

When the discount actually appears

On your next invoice, not as a refund of what you have already paid. Applying a code mid-month does not credit the month you are in.

How long it lasts depends on the code, not on anything you control — some are a one-off, some run for a set number of months, some apply for as long as you stay subscribed. If you were given a code, the terms came with it; Tabledoo cannot extend one.

Why a code gets refused

Message or symptomUsually means
Invalid or expired promotion codeA typo, or the code has passed its end date, or it has been switched off
You do not have an active subscriptionYou are on the page but not subscribed yet — use the code at the payment step instead
Refused when you know it is validIt may be limited to a particular plan, to new customers only, to a number of uses that is now exhausted, or to a currency other than yours

What to check before asking

  1. Retype it by hand rather than pasting — a trailing space or a copied line break is the commonest cause.
  2. Check the characters that get misread: 0 and O, 1 and l.
  3. Check the end date if you were told one.
  4. Check whether it was for new customers. Many launch codes are, and an existing subscription cannot use them.

If it still fails, whoever gave you the code is the right person to ask — they can see its conditions. Support can confirm whether a code exists and is active, but cannot change its terms or make one apply to a plan it was not meant for (link Reporting a problem).

One code at a time

A subscription carries one discount. Applying a second code replaces the first rather than stacking on top of it.

So if you already have a discount running and are given a new code, check which is actually better before applying it — the new one takes over, and the old one is not restored automatically.

Good to know

Codes are separate from SMS credit packs. A subscription discount does not apply to a credit pack purchase (link Buying credit packs).

A discount does not change your plan or its limits — only what you pay.

A code will not rescue a suspended account on its own. Resolve the payment first, then apply the code (link A failed payment, and suspension).
