The Timeline on small screens

Using the Timeline on a phone or small tablet, and when to use the list instead.
On a small screen
The Timeline still works, with two differences:
- The columns are narrower, so you see more of the day at once but each block is smaller.
- A round "+" button appears in the bottom-right corner for creating a booking quickly. It is hidden on larger screens, where the normal buttons are easier to reach.
Honestly though: a wide grid of tables against time is a tablet-and-computer tool. On a phone, reading it means a lot of scrolling in two directions. Use the phone for the jobs a phone is good at — see Using reservations on a phone.
List View
There is a List View button in the toolbar at every screen size. It opens the same day as a plain list, which is easier on a phone and also better for a few specific jobs:
- Searching for one booking by name.
- Selecting several bookings at once to confirm or cancel them.
- Exporting the day to a spreadsheet.
- Reading the day on a phone, where a wide grid is awkward.
Nothing is lost by switching: it is the same bookings, shown as rows instead of blocks. What you give up is the shape of the day — the gaps, the back-to-back turns, the section carrying everything — which is exactly what the Timeline is for.
Tips for the host-stand tablet
- Install Tabledoo as an app so it fills the screen with no address bar and nothing else to wander off to. See Installing Tabledoo as an app.
- Use it in landscape. The grid is wide by nature.
- Press "Now" at the start of a shift to jump to the current time.
- Leave it on the Timeline before service and switch to Live View once guests arrive.
