The digital menu, explained

Available in the Basic, Enterprise and Pro plans. View plans

What this covers

What the digital menu is, how it is structured, and what it does not do. Needs the Menu feature on your plan and the manage-settings permission to edit.

You will find it at Property Settings → Digital Menu (/settings/menu).

What you get

A menu guests read on their own phone by scanning a code, at an address of your own. Change a price at four o'clock and it is live at four o'clock — no reprinting, no laminating, no PDF that nobody can read without pinching and zooming.

It also does things paper cannot: guests can search it, filter out things they cannot eat, and read it in their own language.

How a menu is put together

Four levels, each inside the one above:

LevelWhat it isExample
MenuThe whole thing. You have exactly one."Autumn Menu"
CategoryA section of it.Starters, Mains, Desserts, Wine
ItemA dish or a drink.Grilled sea bass — €24
Option groupA choice the guest makes on an item."How would you like it cooked?"

Note the first row: one menu per restaurant. Separate lunch and dinner menus are not supported — use categories instead, and mark items unavailable when they are off.

Menu settings

  • Menu Name and a description.
  • Currency — a three-letter code such as EUR, GBP or USD.
  • Publicly visible — the switch that puts it online.
  • Languages — your main one, plus any others you want to offer. See Auto-translating your menu.

Menu, ordering and the buttons — three separate things

These are on different plans and often confused:

FeatureGives guests
Digital Menu (this one)Reading your menu on their phone.
Online OrderingOrdering from their phone, straight to your kitchen. See How at-table ordering works.
Customer InteractionCall-waiter and request-bill buttons. See Call waiter and request bill.

The menu works perfectly well on its own — plenty of restaurants use only that.

Getting started

  1. Building your menu — categories and items.
  2. Item details: allergens, tags and images.
  3. QR codes for your menu and tables — printing the codes.
  4. Designing your menu page — making it look like you.

Allow an evening for a first menu of any size. Getting the categories right first makes the rest much faster.
