Announcements from Tabledoo
What this covers
The message that sometimes appears when you sign in: what it is, who sees it, and the one thing worth knowing before you dismiss one.
What they are
Occasional messages from Tabledoo, shown in the app rather than emailed — so they reach whoever is actually working rather than an inbox nobody opens during service.
Used for:
- Planned maintenance — when, and what to expect
- New features, with a link to what they do
- Changes that affect you — a policy change, a behaviour change worth knowing about
- Anything urgent affecting service
They are not marketing, and they are deliberately infrequent.
Reading one
It appears as a message over the page, with a title, the message, and sometimes a button to a relevant page. Some open in a new tab so you do not lose what you were doing.
Three levels
| Level | Means |
|---|---|
| Information | Worth knowing. A new feature, a small change |
| Warning | Pay attention. Something will change or needs action |
| Critical | Act now. Something affects your service today |
The styling changes with the level, so you can judge in a glance whether it can wait until after service.
Who sees one
Some go to everybody; some are aimed at particular roles. A message about billing goes to Owners, not to your Waitstaff.
So a colleague may not have seen what you saw, which is not a fault — if it affects the team, pass it on.
Dismissing is permanent, and personal
The important part.
When you dismiss an announcement it is dismissed for you alone. Colleagues still see it until they dismiss it themselves — which is why one person knowing about maintenance does not mean the team does.
And it is permanent: there is no way to read a dismissed announcement again. No archive, no history, no list of past messages.
So read before you dismiss
The dismiss button is where the close button usually is, and it is easy to press reflexively mid-service. If you are busy, leave it open — it will still be there after service. Only dismiss once you have actually read it.
If you dismissed something you needed:
- Ask a colleague who has not dismissed it. They can read it to you — the most reliable route.
- Ask support, saying roughly when you saw it (link Reporting a problem).
For anything with a date in it — a maintenance window — the sensible habit is to write the date down before dismissing.
If one keeps appearing
Check whether you are dismissing it on the same device and browser as last time, and that your session is still signed in as the same person. Announcements are remembered against your account, so an announcement that reappears for the same account is worth reporting.
Good to know
They can expire. A maintenance notice stops appearing once the work has happened, even if nobody dismissed it.
They are the same for every restaurant that matches the intended audience. Nothing here is specific to your bookings or your settings.
They never ask for a password or payment details. A message in the app asking for either is not from Tabledoo — report it (link Reporting a problem).
Anything genuinely urgent about your own account — a failed payment — also comes by email to the Owner, so it does not depend on somebody being signed in (link A failed payment, and suspension).
