What this covers

The bell in the top bar: what appears in it, and how to work it. It shows when your plan includes ordering or the guest buttons.

What it collects

  • Waiter calls — a table tapped Call waiter.
  • Bill requests — a table is ready to pay.
  • Orders placed — something new arrived.
  • Order updates — an existing order changed.

Each entry names the table it came from and when. A number on the bell is how many you have not looked at yet.

Working it

  • Acknowledge an item once you have dealt with it — or once you are on your way. That is the signal to everyone else that it is covered.
  • Mark all seen clears the count, for the start of a shift or after a rush.

Nothing is lost

The drawer is backed by stored records, not by whatever happened while your screen was awake. A request that came in while the tablet was locked, or while you were refreshing the page, is still there. Refreshing does not clear anything either — only acknowledging does.

The drawer and the Orders board

They do different jobs, and busy restaurants use both:

Use it for
The drawerAlerts — something needs a person. It follows you around the app.
The Orders boardWorking the tickets. Usually on a fixed screen in the kitchen.

Typically the floor watches the bell and the kitchen watches the board.

Habits worth having

  • Clear it at the start of each shift, so the count means "since we opened".
  • Acknowledge as you go, not in a batch at the end — a stale count teaches everyone to ignore the bell.
  • Agree who owns it per shift. "Everyone" means nobody.
